I am finally starting to feel a little bit better. As in, I don’t feel like I’m near death just by walking up the stairs. Along with a caring husband, here are some things that have helped this week to be a little more bearable. {no exes & ohs… I don’t want you getting sick, too!} __, linds

1. Aveda tea. The best herbal tea I’ve ever had in my entire life. If you like sweet tea, you’ll love this. Yum. // 2. My {2nd} favorite Anthropologie mug, in the letter L. // 3. Lush Mint Julip Lip Scrub. My friend Kristin turned a bunch of us girls on to this when she busted this out at a Christmas party. It’s like dessert for your lips. Since I can’t breathe with my mouth closed, this has been very helpful repairing my chapped lips. Which brings me to… // 4. Vanilla Lip Smacker. An oldie but a goodie. // 5. Vitamin Water. // 6. CamelBak Groove Filter Bottle. Honestly, these sippy water bottles are the best for me. I drink way more water when I use my bottle with the fun sippy spout. Plus, it’s so much easier to take a drink from it while running {not that I’m doing any running this week} than when I have to unscrew a cap and try to get the water into my mouth while I’m pounding pavement/rubber. One of the best inventions ever, if you ask me.

So, I’ve been feeling terribly under the weather since Sunday night, and it’s just not going away. I’ve tried everything I can think of. Green tea, cold-eeze, Zicam, prayer… but alas, I still have a temperature and a cough that sounds like I’ve been smoking since age 12. Awesome. I broke down and finally got a prescription today, so hopefully that helps. It’s hard to be a great calligrapher when you have the chills, so I thought I’d share something I made awhile ago for my office:
Those are lyrics to the song ‘Till I See You by Hillsong United. I just couldn’t get them out of my head, so I figured that it I should just make them a permanent fixture around where I work. In a room full of notes about goals and deadlines, this piece of art is a helpful reminder to me of what is most important. I hope this little design brings a bit of life to your Wednesday. {And I hope you’re feeling better than I am!} xo, linds

The story, PART 1: I’ve been planning on my next tattoo since I got my last tattoo. I have 4 total–the word “grace” on my wrist, my wedding ring, and a multi-colored ichthus on my foot which I definitely covered up with this tattoo a few years later:

{tattoo by Jessie Hopeless, photo by Lark Photography, and shoe embellishments by me :o) }. My husband jokes that I have a “tattoo of the week” and that I’m the girl that cried wolf because I’ve had so many tattoo ideas but have yet to make the move. But really, it’s just because I haven’t found the right thing. I’ve wanted a tattoo on my arm since I fell in visual love with Megan Corkrey. Sigh. But what? I sketched and searched and still… eh. Everything was okay… but in the world of permanent ink on your skin, probably “okay” isn’t really enough, yes? Yes.

PART 2:
So one morning last year over coffee, I stumbled upon this post at Design Love Fest, and I gasped out loud. I’ve always loved watercolor and I have a very sketchy illustrative style, but the work of Kathryn Elyse of Paper Fashion is like all of my sketcywatercolor dreams actualized. I’m IN LOVE!!!! Please please look at the work on her blog. You’ll love it! This is one of my favorite posts. {A custom illustrated Coach bag from Fashion’s Night Out?–how sick would that be?!}

PART #3: I thought and looked and processed and stalked Paper Fashion until I finally bit the bullet and emailed the illustrator herself to request a custom illustration. I told her I loved her organic lines, her sketchy style, and that I was really drawn to flower corsages {like the ones at I’ve seen at Ban.do}. And, let me tell you, did Katie deliver! She was a blast to work with, and I’m beyond thrilled with what she created just for me! Here it is:

Um, AMAZING, right?! Wow, I love it. So I finally made my appointment with Andrew {great, solid guy and an amazing artist} for this Friday! YAY! I’ve got to admit, I’m a little nervous. Obviously, this is kind of a big deal and obviously, there is no way I can get exactly that drawing because of all the detail and because it’s not Katie actually tattooing me. But! I know I’ll love it. And so this Friday, I’m getting a new tattoo! {I still don’t think D believes me}. I’ll be sure to post pics and let you know how it goes! Yikes! xo, linds

D and I watched the grammy’s on Sunday and quite frankly, all I remember are Katy’s glittery eyes and a haze of hot pink feather earrings. I was absolutely mesmerized by Gwyneth! Say what you want about the “Forget You” number, but D and I loved it. And, I thought Gwyneth’s styling was super smart. I guess if you’re on stage singing with muppets, you could really get away with wearing the craziest, most colorful ensemble you can think of. She could have worn either of these two beautiful, outrageous gowns by the late, brilliant, Alexander McQueen

…which would have been fabulous, but she did not. She even could have channeled Bjork and worn a giant stuffed bird and it would have been totally in line with the rest of the cast for that performance. However, she did not. She wore this:

And I thought IT WAS PERFECT. It was really fun but in unexpected, subtle ways. Her hair was perfection, and the hot pink feather earrings and the amazing stilettos were just the right amount of crazy-fun without going overboard. It’s like her stylist got her all dressed up and said “You know what, Gwyneth? That’s one step too far. Take off the rainbow feather dress we originally picked, and just put on that little black jumpsuit.” Perfect!!! I know not everyone can pull off a skin-tight black jumpsuit, but her fantastic body had absolutely nothing to do with how rockin’ I thought she looked. Major props to whoever styled her.

I loved her look so much, and since I was at the mall running some errands anyway, I picked up a little Valentine’s gift for myself at Charlotte Russe. {You can always rely on them to have, well, cheap fun jewelry that will tarnish/break after several wears, but it’s okay because you get what you get for $4. And today, I got my wish to have hot pink feather earrings!} Happy Valentine’s Day to me! In between addressing, I snapped a few photos so you could see.

So even if it’s not hot pink feathers, I hope you find yourself a little inspired to add a little element of pizzaz to your outfit today! Think about it, how can someone not have a good day sporting hot pink feathers?! xo, linds p.s. I found most of the photos of Gwyneth’s Grammy look here.
