I’m not much of a “black friday” shopper. In the years that I tried to be a part of that team, I realized I spent more of my Christmas budget on buying stuff like $4.99 ballet slippers I just HAD to have for me, instead of shopping for the people actually on my list. That to say, it’s safer for me to stay away from any mall-type establishment. My husband happens to make the very best cheesy scrambled eggs on the face of the planet, so I’m sleeping in and starting my vacation day off with that. Yay!

But for the rest of you–faithful black friday shoppers that you are–here are a few little delicious bits of eye candy for you to feast your eyes on! My friend {and partner in entertaining crime} Ahndea is a real style guru. She herself has a beautiful personal style all her own and is totally put together. True story–last time we went to lunch together, someone told her she was beautiful and that he liked her outfit… promptly after asking me if I #1. had been painting [no] and #2. was dressed like I was because I was in a play [also no]. So anyway, she has got it going ON. In her styling, Ahndea started making custom accessories for her and her family to wear. Well, people started loving them and asking if they were available for purchase, and thus HeirBloom was born. Here are some photos shot of me at our “friend Thanksgiving” wearing one of her headbands as I’m grazing through all of her vintage jewelry for her holiday collection! {more photos from that event here}.

She also made a custom piece for me that you can see in the photos below. {Laura of Lark Photography was gracious enough to shoot the photos for me–thanks Laura!} In the early new year, I’ll be working with Ahndea on marketing her brand, and I’ve included a {tiny–don’t want to give it away!} sneak peak of one of the scans for some of the calligraphy that will be included. I’ll be sure to keep you posted as all that develops!

Tonight, as I sit on my lovely couch in my toasty afghan with my puppy curled up next to me, husband chilling across from me, surrounded by yummy candles, and full from hibachi chicken and french silk pie for my dad’s birthday {happy birthday, dad!} it seems I can almost feel how full my heart is with thanksgiving for all that God has blessed me with. I deserve none of it, but that doesn’t matter to Him. Life is busy and things can get stressful, especially this time of year. But the blessings are many and He is good.

Haylee’s personality was beautifully represented in the palette she choose for her wedding… she is classic like a navy, but then bright and full of life like the pink and burnt orange accents. When she and her {awesome} mom Pam showed me the colors for the wedding, I was even more excited than I already was–what a fun combination! I always say, you’re only as good as your client… and let me tell you, I have been blessed with phenomenal clients! For her invites, I wanted to create something that was really clean and graphic, but also feminine at the same time. Letterpressed {at Flywheel Letterpress, also featured in this post} invitations slipped into a crisp navy envelope in night from Paper-Source {lined with a custom pretty paisley–Haylee’s favorite pattern}. The surprise of fuchsia return envelopes added a little punch to the entire suite. A fun directions card helped guests get from here to there.

Because Thanksgiving is so awesome {with the food… and the giving thanks… and the food}, my friends and I decided we might as well celebrate it twice! We got together last week for a full {delicious!} Thanksgiving feast. Here are the menus, a few of the food cards, and the place cards I created for the event:

For place cards, I decided to do something a bit different. Ahndea decorated the table scape with a beautiful blue pumpkin as the centerpiece, so I wanted to play off the organic-shaped pumpkin by making the name pebbles. Have you ever tried this trick before? Super easy. Here’s how to have fun with clear rocks: Purchase glass rocks from the craft store {you can get large ones like I used, or the tiny ones make for great magnets}. Then you can either draw or print whatever design you want to use… I used a calligraphy pen and ink to make the ones pictured {I found the perfect slate blue paper, too!} One of my favorite tricks Chrissy taught me is to use magazines to find the designs–lots of great words and patterns. Next, cut a circle out of the paper about the same size as the rock, just a bit smaller. This does NOT have to be a perfect circle. Please, just freehand it. Because the rock magnifies the image, you can’t even see the jaggedy edges of your imperfect circle. After you cut the circle out, put a dab of Elmer’s glue (or any clear-drying glue) on the paper, and push it, design-side up, next to the flat underside of the rock and hold it tight for about 15 seconds. Then just let them dry! You can chip any excess glue off the rock with your fingernail. {To make magnets, just purchase circle magnets and glue to the back}. Voilà! p.s. my darling husband’s name is Dugan, not Lugan. It just looks like Lugan because of the glare in the photo. Sorry, D!}

I really wanted the paper products to have an easy, rustic feel. From the little watercolor paintings to the calligraphy, everything seems a little bit more approachable when it’s not quite perfect. Here are some shots a friend took from the night. Including the beautiful table Ahndea set, and her beautiful house.

Because the kitchen was a ladies-only operation, I got to do the honor of carving the turkey. I don’t know about you, but wow my friends can cook! And that’s my lemony asparagus up there. Quickest, easiest recipe ever. I make it all the time, now you can too.

Lindsay’s Lemony Asparagus
1 bunch asparagus, washed, with about 1 inch of the ends trimmed off.
Juice of one lemon
Cracked sea salt
Fresh ground pepper
Shakey parmesan cheese
Olive oil
Directions: place asparagus on a baking sheet {one with a lip on it to hold in liquids from dripping}. Drizzle with all ingredients except for the cheese, and mix with your hands. You can taste one raw to make sure that it’s seasoned correctly. Put in 350 oven for about 15 minutes until desired doneness. Sprinkle with parmesan before serving.

I have SO many things to be thankful for! But this particular night, I was thankful for amazing, close friendships… with women that sure know how to cook! I hope this leaves you feeling inspired for the week ahead! xo, linds
