I had some of my most favorite ladies in the whole world over last night. It was so fun! Gosh, I have amazing friends. We laughed, talked, played with makeup and clothes {seriously} and most importantly, ate. I made dark chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel buttercream and a non-recipe-follower’s version of chopped salad. {Combine however much you want of: romaine lettuce, green apple, pre-cooked bacon, bleu cheese, mini noodles, red onion, corn [thawed, frozen], avocado, and grilled chicken}. The girls said that they loved the balsamic vinaigrette I made. Now, I’m not a devoted must-make-from-scratch girl. Some things {like Pad Thai} are best left up to the professionals. However, I don’t waste my time with store bought vinegrette. Making it from scratch is cheap, easy, and made with things you generally always have.
The very best balsamic vinaigrette: In a small food processor, combine 1/2 cup olive oil, 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, 1 generous teaspoon Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon chopped shallots, 1 clove garlic, crushed, 1/2 teaspoon sea salt and 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper. Process until well blended. Makes a generous 1/2 cup dressing. If making in advance, refrigerate, covered, until serving time.
*My tips: I add 1 tablespoon lemon juice. / Sometimes I skip the shallot because I don’t always have those on hand. / I usually used jarred crushed garlic. / I don’t bother food processoring it. I’m sure it’s good that way, but I just whip it real fast before I mix it in the salad so that I don’t dirty another dish.
Speaking of mustard…
I just love mustard yellow. Actually, all yellow. I don’t discriminate. Mustard yellow, chartreusey yellow, bright yellow… L O V E it!!! And my dad, the excellent shopper that he is, bought me this sweet gem of a camera bag for my birthday:
Pretty sweet huh? Thanks to the lovelies at Jo Totes for making such fun camera bags, thanks to my amazing friends for said camera, and thanks to my dad for letting me tote in style! Want to order one for your very own? You can do just that right here. Happy dressing! xo, linds
You know it’s been a long time since your last post when you have to enter your password to actually create your post, and you can’t remember it. So, sorry I’ve been posting so sporadically {Clueless, anyone?}. The good news is, I’ve been super busy lovely lettering… the bad news is, less time with you. {Sorry, you!} So now, since I’m taking 5 in my office anyway {thanks for leaving the spinach dip, Ahndea!} I thought I’d take a moment, say hello, and tell you that I have not forgotten about you! Here’s what you have to look forward to this winter on lindsay letters: 12 days of Christmas re-wind {a little peak at some of my Christmas fun… hey, it’s never too late to celebrate celebrating!}, more lovely lettering, more beautiful weddings, a closer look at my office {that I’m trying to call a studio, not an office} and the release of my Valentine’s card and poster collection! {Available for purchase on Etsy–more details coming soon!} Have a great day! See you back here soon!… xo, linds

After giving it some thought, I nixed the idea of the 12 days of Christmas re-wind. Because, well, I was over it. When it’s Christmas time this coming fall, I will definitely resurrect some of my Christmas fun. I’d love to share some of my Christmas card designs with you as well, but I will do that closer to the Christmas season… not now, when you’re probably over it too. Here’s a little peak at one, just to tide you over…
ALSO… I decided against the Valentine’s-specific posters and cards. But I have developed a greeting card of sorts that I absolutely cannot wait to share, so stay tuned!.. xo, linds
Hi there! It’s the 3rd of January, which means I’ve already broken half of my resolutions {I haven’t washed my hair or relaxed in front of the TV for a mindless show yet…} BUT! As it is officially my last day of glorious vacation, I did my best to sneak in a craft {more crafting & less envy of others crafting is at the top of my resolution list}. Horray!
I like grocery shopping. One of my favorite things to do at the grocery store {second to locating the cheese sample lady or the pizza princess} is to get in the longest check out line I can find, grab a magazine, and settle in. I find it helps me practice patience. Plus, I get to relax and read a magazine. It’s quite nice. So yesterday I grabbed a DIY magazine and found a bunch of cute projects. The page that grabbed my attention first was an article about the awesome shop I Like You! located in Minneapolis. Man, does this shop look like my cup of tea! Instantly, I wanted to be there… with a tattoo’d sleeve and a bunch of extra cash to spend on locally owned prettiness. Anyway, since I can’t be there, I decided to buy the magazine and replicate one of the cool crafts I saw that they had used as a display in their store.
I’d seen this type of idea a while back when dear Sarah {check out her blog Hello My Dear for your daily dose of eye candy} brought this cool craft to my attention. I think the versions Sarah showed me were plates made into cake pedestals. {Am I right, Sarah?} I’m sure all kinds of versions of this craft are floating around the blog world. Below are the photos of mine. I was so happy to get to use the little mismatched plate collection I started for myself! I just super glued everything together using Gorilla Glue. Easy breezy! {The cute pointing finger is an antique Sarah gave me for my birthday last year}. Thanks to the lovely ladies at I Like You! for the inspiration!
The wonderful thing about having wedding invitations created {not customized–created} just for you, is that you get an invitation that is exactly what you want. I’m not talking picking your paper color and font, I mean the whole thing. Who wouldn’t want that? You spend all this time planning a wedding that is just what your heart desires for you and your loved one… crafting, planning, tasting… your invitation should represent all that effort in one {or several} sheets of beautifully crafted paper. Sigh. I love what I do…
Andy and Mel–hands-down the most hilarious couple in the world–were married exactly one year ago yesterday! Their wedding was New Years Evening–a beautiful snowy one at that. The bare trees, the twinkling lights, the elegant colors of champagne and black, her venetian lace dress from Spain, the yummy tapas… it was a magical evening. Below are a few photos of the invitation I created for them. It was just what Mel was looking for, and that’s the best part. Happy anniversary, friends!
Want more? Here’s an awesome video of their wedding, in reverse, by their very talented friend, Jon Brown.
As for me and my new years, it was just as awesome as I’d thought it would be. A great party and a great time had by all. 2011–so far, so good! xo, linds
My lovely friends are throwing a party. Not just any party–a fancy, adult party! Normally I’m cool with hunkering in somewhere warm & cozy on New Year’s Eve, but this year I’m especially excited to kick up my glittery heels and ring in the new year in style with a wisky sour in my hand, herringbone stockings on my feet, my handsome man at my side, and some wonderful friends! What’s even better than being a guest a sweet party? Being hired to design the invitations for it. Below are a photos of the Mad Men inspired creations.
Fun, right?! Now, just as importantly… What are you wearing New Year’s Eve? My mother-in-law buys me the coolest clothes. Clothes that I didn’t specifically ask for–stuff she just picks out–what pleasant surprises I received this Christmas! One of which is this skirt. Pretty amazing, I know. So, I’m thinking that skirt, with the sparkly pumps I mentioned in this post {my birthday present to myself!}.
What about you? Whatever you wear, wherever you go, I wish you a lovely evening, and a very Happy New Year! See you next year! xo, linds
